Rover has unlocked the secrets of a Martian crater

The Perseverance spacecraft spent more than 1,000 sols (Martian solar days) in Jezero Crater, which was once a lake with a river. The rover explored the delta in the rocks and collected enough data about the area and its development over millennia.

4 billion years ago, an asteroid collided with Mars and formed the crater Jezero from igneous rock. Water filled the crater many millions of years later.
