During its stay on the Red Planet, the Mars rover of the American space agency “Perseverance” travelled almost 23 kilometres along the crater Jezero, and during this time it collected 23 samples of local rocks. During the meeting of the American Geophysical Union specialists reported that two of these samples attracted their attention the most.
As the researchers noticed, they revealed a high concentration of carbonates, which “remember” the conditions of rock formation. In the first of the samples, in turn, was also recorded the presence of a large amount of phosphates, which could not but arouse the interest of scientists, because phosphorus is a necessary element for the emergence of life. The second sample was interesting to scientists the presence of silica in it. Specialists explained that on Earth it contributes to the preservation of fossils in good condition.
